I think Dave is absolutely correct. Most non-collectors want the poster
mounted whether by linenbacking it or actually mounting it to a piece of
foamcore or like materials. I always explain the collectability issues, but many
say they are not in it for the collectability but for display and they want the
poster to look at great as possible. Having said this, though, I know that
people can change their minds and so even if I mount a poster, touch up the fold
lines, etc., I still do it with materials that are reversible just in case the
"collectability" becomes an issue to the customer somewhere down the road. They
can have it removed from the acid free backing and linenbacked at that point, no
worse for the wear if removed correctly. I ship about 50 frames a day and 75% of
those customers are not collectors. Typically they are just wanting to hang
something for decorative purposes in a t.v. room or home theater. In fact, the
majority of my studio accounts always mount the movie posters, even signed ones,
as they want them to lay perfectly flat in the frames and don't care a hoot
about collectability. It is sometimes difficult for me as a collector to glue a
poster to a board. I can, at the very least, take solace in the fact that I am
mounting it with all acid free materials.
