Yeah, there's a virtual "snow storm" of these virus
email out with different approaches and subject lines. Two of them that came in
this morning:
"hey its me, my old address don't work at time. i
don't know why?!
in the last days ive got some mails. i' think thaz your mails but im not sure! plz read and check" ... with an attachment for you to read. Yeah,
right...
and:
"View Paris Hilton & Nicole Richie video clips
, pictures & more ;)
Download is free until Jan, 2006!" ... why anyone thinks that come-on would entice
most people to click on the attachment ,I don't know...
The old rules still apply:
1) NEVER open any email attachment unless you know
FOR SURE what it is. If you want to send an attachment to someone, send them a
regular email first, telling them what you want to do and asking permission to
do it -- so they know to expect it and that it really is from you.
2) NEVER click on a link in a email that
requests you to enter your User Name or Password unless you are expecting the
message -- like you've just registered with a new website or forum or whatever.
Otherwise -- even if the email looks genuine -- just manually go to the site
without using the link in the email and do whatever it is they were asking
you do to in the email.
Too bad we have to deal with all this shuck and
jive, but there it is.
