Restoration is the act of taking something and
bringing it back as close to its original state as possible.
It's the same on any restoration:
architecture, cosmetic surgery, etc. One wants them to be as close to
their original condition as possible. I consider ALL of this as
restoration.
Recreation? That would be adding another room
to an old mansion and making it look like it came that way. It would be
changing a nose from a bump to a ski jump. (Restoration would just be a
facelift)
Michael Jackson is a recreation. I'm a
restoration.

PS BRAVO and thank-you to all those restorers who
can achieve this! We need to keep our treasures alive.

Subject: Re: [MOPO] Restoration or
recreation?
A clever rejoinder but it does disservice to those who are genuinely
involved in restoration. Folks who collect paper should EDUCATE themselves on
restoration. Learn to identify it. Learn to understand the nuances of
restoration and to apply those nuances to their own value set.
To just glom all restoration into a "fooling someone else" is insulting
to those who are really interested in saving a rare piece, be they restorers
or cutomers..
Or should we not attempt any retsorative measures on those rarely found
pieces and dump them in the trash?
I thank you.
