Basically, if you want to own the soapbox, you can go about it in two ways:

1. You can have an open forum where people are free to speak their minds
(barring egregious breaches in conduct, of course).

or

2. You can go the way of the Bush Administration and only surround yourself
with people who parrot back everything you say to them in glowing positives.
People who have nothing but fawning raves about your conduct (and
intelligence, and beauty, and power, etc...), barring anyone with a
dissenting opinion. You can even call it an open forum (even though you
know it isn't even close), just to trick people into believing that it is.

Several movie poster forums have followed the second path, not just MPF
(luckily Mopo and NSFGE have followed the righteous course).

Cheers,

Bob

PS. Isn't it interesting how EVERY forum that followed #2 failed (or is in
the process of failing)...

Andy,

Really, this transparent attempt at justifying your own pre-emptive
censorship
and moves to ban people who you perceive might become a problem is
embarrassing. And a lot of people would say you brought it on yourself. We
talked about other ways to handle things some time ago privately, but
apparently you decided to take the censorship and banning route. So now
you
get the results. No, I didn't even bother to read the link to NSFGE --
it's
immaterial how bad the post is. If the moderators of that forum prefer to
have
such things happen in order to preserve free speech, unfortunately that's
the
price you sometimes pay. If they would rather give time for peer pressure
to
get things back in line and calmed down, that's also an approach I prefer
to
see taken. I'll take both techniques any day over arbitrary censorship and
banning administered by one or two people "for the good of all".

But, honestly, everyone on all sides of this needs to realize that these
are
not MOPO issues. When those censored and/or banned from MPF had no place
else
to tell of their experiences, posting a few messages about the situation
on
MOPO was one thing, but to conduct an on-going firefight between the
various
forums, using MOPO as the battlefield, I don't feel that's appropriate.

I'm not going to apologise for this as I think everyone needs to see
this.....

I can't quite understand it and I'm not sure that I want to, how grown up
men and women can act so immature and Childlike is beyond me.

Phil and Ari... I used to respect you both. How can you let this continue
on
an open forum? Are you intentionally harbouring all this idiotic
behaviour?
Free speech is all very well but this has gone beyond that. The personal
Insults is not funny at all. As far as the banning is concerned, it is
now
obvious that this was all some kind of a joke and certain member almost
wanted to be banned? I don't get it at all.

Someone has also changed their avatar to a picture of me also... I
supposed
I should be flattered but I fail to see an sence in it.

If anyone moans about any more bans on MPF it will fall on deaf ears.

This is an embarrassment to the Hobby; make you own mind up....
