The Van Gogh.  Naturally.  There is genius and then there is poster art.  And as usual Claude, you don't know what your talking about.  Many of Van Gogh's sketches and water colors do not "sell in the upper reaches of millions."  And the vast majority of these are not sold at auction houses but through art dealers and their studios around the world.  There is a world beyond Christie's and Sotheby's.

Considering that Van Gogh's sell in the upper reaches of millions this is not a realistic choice.  However, let me pose a true choice for you.  If a 3 sheet King Kong sells for $450,000 at Heritage or Hershenson, that would be considered the fair market value of the day.  If on the same day a "lesser" Van Gogh sells for $450,000 at one of the major auction houses that would then be a fair comparison of fair market value on that date.  Given a choice after the auctions to purchase either from the respective high bidder then I would take the King Kong.  This is my hobby and love and I could care less about the Van Gogh.  What would you take?  Hmm!
