I dont think there is anything wrong with reissues, so long as they

Sometimes they are nicer, sometimes not.
Sometimes the lesser value outweighs the lesser appeal
I am glad Bob Mentions Walkabout. MAN thats a great film.
Personally I havent seen a poster that REALLY does it justice. The
Aussie 1 sheet i like, but like CARS THAT ATE PARIS - to me, there is
no poster that really captures how fantastic the film is.
Recently on NS4 we had some discussion regarding another classic
Aussie film, and its reissue poster.
If it wasnt for reissues I wouldnt have half the Val Lewton posters
and cards I do have, so I LOVE THEM.

Sure, everyone picks out all the more popular re-issues (just waiting
for Harold & Maude and we'll be complete)... ;o)
I avoid reissues like the plague, but there are some exceptions:
Walkabout has a really nice later reissue using the key art that they
didn't use for the original.
A Clockwork Orange has not one, but two re-issue one sheets that are
much better than the original.
Depending on how you look at it, half the posters from the greatest
poster release of all time could be called re-issues (2001 a Space
Odyssey).
The rerelease of Singin' in the Rain, although very similar to the
original, is slightly more appealing.
More recently, Donnie Darko's rerelease was slightly better than the
original poster (although, neither of them can hold a candle to the
pre-release poster).
Cheers,
Bob

That's another one...........while I love and own the original
Saul Bass West Side Story one sheet, the 1968 reissue is very nice
also. The Hustler reissue is much more indicative of the film
content and, hence, I get a lot more requests for that reissue
than the original.

The fact that some reissues are nicer than the originals, is
also true with Lobby Cards.
Some are also more expensive and/or harder to find.
Titles coming to mind are THE HUSTLER, WEST SIDE STORY, KING
CREOLE, and THE GRADUATE.

YOU KNOW IT IS A GREAT TITLE WHEN THE REISSUES COST A LOT.
Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, and some hitchcock come
to mind.
A year ago, a purchased a mint CASABLANCA reissue. i
hated it!!!! couldn't look at without thinking it was a
reissue. resold it on ebay, and made about 30.00
However, i do own the Rebecca half sheet reissue of 1948.
I bought it in the first batch of posters i acquired, 20+
years ago. Probably ripped off at the time----i paid
$40.00. I have seen it sell for 350+. (this is the
EARLIER reissue).
So many of my originals have their reissue counterparts
going for nice bucks--
And so many reissues look better than the original!!!
Presently on ebay, there are about 3 reissues of posters
of which i want the originals. but, i will still wait.
THOUGHTS ??????????????????
