heres some food for thought on reproductions...
when a infringer copys a Poster the process is simple. However
pre-digital printing was more costly.
so lets review that. 1st a photograph was taken by a large stat camera.
then color seperations were made
and Film made to size so perhaps 4- 6 seperate sheets of film in black,
yellow , blue, red
Ok then a metal plate was burned off the fil again 4 plates ( they look
like thin aluminum ) the costs to do that sre like in old days waht 2-3 K
so the bootleger would use a actual original to shoot from... as to
why some left off copyright or trimmed thats because to find a press
with a print arera of 27 x 41 area is one of larhgest and needs extra
trim off
the papaer is on ROLLs and is cut after printing... Continental litho
in Cleleland Ohio printed most posters in the region,,,
OK,,, so as far as Posters that have variatiions,,, when a printer sets
up the RUN the color Keys are targets
used for alighnment,,, they need to be on top or they can cause Blurr
of Images also color variance
when a pinter would set up in this anaolog Mode... they would run some
posters to tweak the print run..... hese some crappy posters,,,,
that they were supposed to throw away.... however many went out the back
door to poster buyers..
Its the american way to sneak out stuff and make a extra Buck,,,
BUT then Digital printig came in,,,,, and its a complete differant
animal.... 1st... its Plateless.... and the registation is as good as Us
currency..... so the reproductions can rival the originals.. as the art
can be tweaked colors enhanced and done cheaper and without flaws....
so if someone is repoing titles they will be better quality then when
they came out as far as sharpness
as for the insert myth... its really a mix as sure you can repo poster
these days on a good home prnted from a computer,,, so Im sure someone
has figured that out... Ive seen lobbies done like that
and there was several finds from National screen back when they closed
in Cleveland becuse the titles were good and bad when they found them ,,
they were bought from dump workers after natoional screen dumped the depot,
However ive come to conclusion that 90% of the collectors and dealers
wouldnt know a repo if it bit them on the butt in Macys window at high
noon..
I think its all very funny personally. However to the newbies in the
Business and collectors i think they are being passed on disinformation
that makes the entire collectable Hobby very carny like( no Offence to
Carnys)
Im considering opening a poster de-restoration business as so they can
be de-restored and add authentic
de-whiteing and de-colorize them.. Im am looking to do the venture with
a restoration specialist with a attitude.. Maybe Olsen???
