Franc,

the truth is that some people have no lives, must not have cable (or a dish) and aren't serious about buying. Calling them inconsiderate is being nice. Silly, but that's what anyone can expect whenever working with the public...bad with the good. Certainly doesn't have to be that way, but then all kids should be loved, have food, shelter and medical coverage (hell, all adults, for that matter) in a country with such abundance. It's as if you have to approach it by expecting poor manners and no consideration, that way when you're right, you're prepared and so be it...but how nice when you're wrong!

As an example, I just responded to a very reputable and kind German dealer who sent me pics and info on a CHINATOWN 40x60 I was interested in and he was very considerate. In return, (though the price was too high for the condition when adding paperbacking and shipping costs), I wrote him back explaining why I wouldn't be buying and thanking him for his efforts to respond to my inquiry with detailed pictures, etc.

I think it took 3 minutes and he wrote back saying he completely understood and thanking me for responding. You know, when I was young, I always thought adults were in this rarified position where they always knew the right thing and did it. Well (BEWARE! ~ Spoilers Ahead!), Columbus didn't discover America and there is no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny. But I believe there ARE great people in this hobby/business because I've met them. I suppose the bad apples only make the good ones leave a better taste in our metaphoric mouths.

Hope things go better,

Patrick

I’ll go one further. After my auctions end on Ebay, I always get people writing to me to tell me they missed out on one or two of my listings that got no bids and ask if I’ll re-list it for them. If I tell them that I’ll sell to them directly, I usually get no response at all. I also get bottom-feeders writing to me after the auctions end asking if I’ll accept a lower price fee for items that didn’t sell. I’ve responded and accepted some of these offers and usually never hear again from these people. I now usually ignore these e-mails, unless it’s someone I know. People are just plain rude. FRANC

I second that, Todd. Same thing happened to me. A few times. The lack of courtesy is very irritating.

For the dealers and collectors posting WANTS on MoPo who don't have the courtesy to spend the 30 seconds that it would take to reply to someone offering you your exact wants, I WILL NOT be responding to your WANT LISTS anymore, when I have exactly what you're looking for.

Many do reply such as David Lieberman, but in the last couple of weeks I have responded to people's exact wants with no replies whatsoever.

No problem if you don't want it, but at least have the courtesy to reply to someone taking the time to let you know they have what you want.
