I have called Paypal over the same thing. Essentially, and unless things
have changed, you CANNOT set credit cards to be your default payment, and
have to manually change it *every time* and confirm to have it charge to
your card. It is a huge pain in the rear, but that's the way Paypal screws
its customers. I *never* pay through my bank. Paypal doesn't want you to
have chargeback abilities if you need them, which is a HUGE advantage for
you against fraud protection and a huge liability for them.
