Thanks to everyone that responded.

Turns out that, by sheer instinct, I have been following all the advice given
here anyway.

I make sure not to keep much money in the bank account PayPal has access to,
because I don't trust PayPal's sticky fingers. In this particular instance I
did keep some extra money in the account, but I'm lucky I did!! Otherwise,
what would have happened to the 4 payments I just made? They would all be
cancelled, the Sellers would be pissed off, PayPal would be pissed off, and I
would have the unenviable task of explaining to everyone what has happened. I
shudder to think....

And Steve, I did not attempt to change the default payment to my Credit Card.
I DID change it manually to CREDIT CARD every time. It still did not work for
me this time. I HAVE done it successfully in the past.

The joy of PayPal...

Regards to all
Zeev

I have called Paypal over the same thing. Essentially, and unless things
have changed, you CANNOT set credit cards to be your default payment, and have
to manually change it every time and confirm to have it charge to your card.
It is a huge pain in the rear, but that's the way Paypal screws its customers.
I never pay through my bank. Paypal doesn't want you to have chargeback
abilities if you need them, which is a HUGE advantage for you against fraud
protection and a huge liability for them.

    A question to the group:

I just finished making 4 Paypal payments.
I had no money in my PayPal account so the payout procedure defaults to
taking money from my BANK ACCOUNT. I clicked on MORE OPTIONS, and changed the
prompt so that money will be taken from my CREDIT CARD instead. A credit card
which is on file with PayPal.
The PayPal prompt tries to discourage you from doing so, and you have to
confirm that that is indeed your choice!
When all was said and done the money in all 4 transactions ended up being
taken from my Bank Account. Exactly what I tried to avoid. I called PayPal
but it was of no use. First they said I must have done something wrong, but in
any case it was irreversable.

I was wondering if anyone on the list has experienced an identical problem?
