Given the current economy, I would not be using Paypal as a form of payment at
all for this.

In fact, I would not be leaving any significant amounts of money in that "bank"
in cyberspace.

As I am sure John and I are both watching from Down Under, the current exchange
rates changes from US to Australian dollars is bordering on surreal!

Regards,
Phil

  Hi Tom
I have done this from time to time. Its best to get something specific in
writing about how and when you will be making the progress payments. If you do
encounter any problems with the dealer you will not have the benefit of being
able to lodge a dispute with paypal because the transaction payments will
probably be more than 45 days old. However if the dealer is well known and
reputable you should be fine. I had one such transaction that took more than a
year to complete and by the time I received the final payment I had lost out
heavily on the exchange rates but c'est la vie.
  Regards
  John

I wanted to ask a question of the group who are largely composed of dealers.

I am interested in buying an original poster from Spain but I can't afford
to make the purchase all at one time. I wanted to use the time payment method.
A deposit and then about three payments to pay the poster off. The dealer would
only ship the poster when the entire funds are received. Is this common among
dealers to do or allow this type of a transaction? The poster I am interested
in is one I have searched for for a very long time. With the way the economy is
this is the ONLY way I can make the purchase by time payment. I thought maybe
the price was negotiable but the dealer feels the price is ok.

Anyway, I thought I would ask if this method of payment is done much or?

    Thanks!
