I believe what you describe is on the minds of everyone, e.g., the strength of her mental state. To have a gift hidden for so long while living in a small Scottish village -- speaks volumes about the brutality she must have faced as a youngster with a disability -- and as an adult whose parents discouraged her to date. Yet ironically -- it was her mother -- who died at age 91, who encouraged her to audition. After suffering a two-year-depression, Susan Boyle decided to go for broke. I think it's obvious that whoever manages her career will have to handle her carefully. She is not a techno-pop vanilla diva (and that's a good thing) -- but her fragility is patently visible. A modest make-over combined with reminders to her to retain her church choir roots -- could determine whether she's a topic du jour -- or a long-term talent. I find it ironic that Susan Boyle might likely be rejected by youngsters who make up the massive fan base of Simon Cowell's "American Idol" show -- and yet to me, she's already demonstrated in a single performance -- that her gifts are so other-worldly remarkable that they exceed those of "Idol's" past winners. The other sick joke about the "Britain's Got Talent" show -- is that it's filled with bizarre acts straight out of Chuck Barris' "The Gong Show." -d.
