COLLECTIBLES. I think there is
a growing interest in these. MovieArt is beginning to carry them.
I'm glad Bruce is auctioning this.
I just upped the bid for fun. I'm curious as to the result.
Incidentally, there are two Alamo Drafthouse chains, so it's kind of
confusing. The really innovative "dinner-movie" theaters
opened by Tim and Carrie League include Village Alamo Drafthouse, the
Alamo Drafthouse South and the newest, the old
Ritz, a b-western theater on 6th Street in Downtown Austin. The Ritz
was completely refurbished. There is also a spin-off
chain of Drafthouses in San Antonio, Houston etc which resulted from
an abortive franchise move.
The Leagues, more than anyone I know, have succeeded in putting Show
Business back into the movie-going experience.
They're very attuned to good projection, good sound etc.
Some folks don't like the waiters and the food service "disrupting"
the film, but going to a late weeknight screening can
minimize that.
I do think that seeing a very serious film there is not quite the same
as seeing a good comedy.
I once went to a film at the Alamo Village and there was a couple
there buying a ticket for PASSION OF THE CHRIST. The girl said "You
get the tickets
and I'll buy the food." !! I could not fancy chewing my way through a
pizza while the Son of God was flogged and crucified by Mel Gibson for
two hours. You
need TUMS for that.
They get ALL of the good films here and compete vigorously against
Cinemark, AMC and Regal. Very, very successful.

After auctioning around 400,000 items, we finally are auctioning our
very first Alamo Drafthouse poster! For those of you who don't know,
the Alamo Drafthouse is a restaurant/theater located in Austin,
Texas. They create their own posters for showings of movies. The
posters are produced in limited numbers and are known for their
different, really cool artwork.
The one we are currently auctioning is from Hell Ride, the 2008
Larry Bishop motorcycle biker gang action adventure thriller
(executive produced by Quentin Tarantino) starring Larry Bishop,
Michael Madsen, Eric Balefour, Vinnie Jones, Leonor Varela, David
Carradine, and Dennis Hopper. It features Tyler Stout art.

It will be interesting to see what it sells for. These ARE from
actual showings of the movie, so it seems they absolutely ARE "movie
