Restorers shouldn't sign their work, but they should sign a letter,
that lays out IN DETAIL what work they performed on the poster, plus
a before-restoration
photo should accompany this 'restoration certificate'.
Now THAT would help a lot, especially if you don't have a chance to
view a poster in person before the purchase.
(Or, if you just lack the experience to tell what restoration has
been performed.)
And let's face it, some of the restorers out there are so good, it's
frightening.
