todd,

you are the one dealer here who has the years and expertise in this genre and material who would know what he's looking at, without a doubt. others want to be.. but you hold that spot.

it might be a good thing to do .. have your own verification service.. to help to weed out the forgeries and obvious fakes and bootlegs that are always introduced into the market.

Yes, Sean is 100% right. I don't need someone else, like a third party who doesn't have nearly the experience I have, to tell me whether something is real or not.

As I've already mentioned, a known restorer who is currently being paid to weed out some of the fakes has already authenticated something to be real which indeed turned out to be fake.

Again, as I mentioned in my post to MoPo the other day, I have almost 50 years experience specializing in Vintage Horror Material and there is no one else out there that has as much experience and has handled as much of this material as I have. So, the next time I plan on making a major purchase, I won't need any of the amateur, er, I mean "so called recognized experts" in the field. Thanks, but no thanks!

On the other hand, this is probably a very good idea for most others, especially when buying an expensive item from other dealers who are not that experienced as you might not be able to get your money back. Buying from one of the major auction houses, you're pretty much protected as they will refund your money without a problem, but it is still up to you to find out afterwards, whether the item you puchased is real or a fake.

I’m going to raise my hand on this one (and would bet people like Todd Feiertag will also). I’m very confident in my ability to spot restoration and fakes without the need of a third party to do so.

But since you’ve raised the subject – it seems like now more than ever would be a great time for a 3rd party grading/authentication service to finally get rolling (like CGC for comics). Think of the million plus dollars that would have been saved by collectors over the past couple of years if the hobby had been more willing to embrace this service.
