I saw the show during previews in San Franciso at the Curran Theater. The
run-through was bumpy (no pun intended) but Mickey Rooney and Ann Miller
carried it off.? Ann Jillian was in the show as a show girl with love birds. I
later saw the show on the road with Carol Channing and Charles Nelson Reilly
and it was just godawful. Neither one of them had the right style.

Hate to burst your bubble but those were planned ad-libs. I saw the show
several times and those same "ad-libs" appeared every time.?

?

The genius of that is he made them look fresh every night and Ann Miller played
it like it was. Seriously, it takes a great talent to do it every night and
make it look fresh!

NO. NO.?NO.

?

The night i saw it, Ann Miller had just after being ill for a few days.? (i got
lucky she was back)? Mickey kept making jokes about Ann returning and
forgetting her lines---and what happened in her absence.?

?

Also, i recall there were some annoying guys in the first row that were
yelling?at Mickey in the first Act,,,,,,so in the second Act when Mickey came
out in drag, and those hecklers said something....he went right up to them and
said..... IT TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE.

?

I understand your point, though.? It was a show that truly wanted to mimic the
days of?unscripted vaudeville acts.??And it was well done.?

?

Remember the dog act?? The classroom scene with the sex joke?? ----listen to
the CD!!!?
