If a double sided poster is in pristine condition or even very good rolled
condition it should be left alone. Linen backing would surely not enhance the
value.

I picked up a load of double sided posters in New Zealand in my travels. The
Kiwi distibuters used to routinely and roughly fold the posters and that
obviously detracts greatly from the presentation. A few of the posters I picked
up were for the Vertigo 2000 release US one sheet. I have thought of having
these linen backed as they would present a lot better than they do now with the
rough and uneven folds.

Its probably only a "thought" because I really don't care for modern posters.
They are a pain to store and I would love to offload all (of the many
thousands) that I have. I will always prefer the older folded hand or stone
lithos or lobby cards.

Can I ask this another way?

Is a pristine double-sided one sheet of greater or lesser value
  if it is linen backed?

Does one add on the "value" (i.e. cost) of the linen-backing?

I think tonight's set of auctions proved that it is not lesser restoration
that dedicated collectors mind (because some know that some posters are very
hard to find in any condition, and others don't mind getting common posters in
lesser condition if they get a large enough discount), but rather they hate
being lied to and being played for chumps, when they bid on posters they are
told have little restoration, and when they receive them they find lots of
lesser restoration.

There shouldn't be a single buyer from tonight's auctions who does not know
EXACTLY what to expect when their package is delivered.

Restoration (good or bad) is not the villain here; it is those who deceive
collectors (whether by over-grading, or by creating fakes).

Bruce's auction today contains a textbook example of how insane the
whole linen-backing craze became in recent years. Why would anybody pay to
linen-back a 2006 movie poster? And then do a poor job of it?

... and I'm not even going to go into the question of why there are
already 10 bids on this offense to nature which have pushed it up to $39 with 3
hours still to go...
