yes I know I CAN do it that way, but I really want to cut the mat to hold it in place so when we rattle from a California earthquake, the pieces don't slip down

can't help wanting perfection

Hey Rich,
I build frames for puzzles all the time. Sometimes customer just float it on top of the foamcore that comes in the frame and sometimes I add a colored mat and they float the puzzle on that. Basically, when you get the frame, you take out the backing material, slide your puzzle on top of it, center it (you don't have to glue anything) and the lay the plexiglass over it. Take the frame and slip it over that sandwich of plexiglass, puzzle, foamcore or float mat, then put the top leg back on, hold it all together while you turn it over, put it your spring clips and then tension holds the puzzle in place. I usually make the frame about 1" bigger than the puzzle. It works great and it's just like all the other frames I have sent you. I just use 1/8" thick foamcore instead of the normal 1/4" foamcore I usually send you. Sue
