It's worse than that. They added lots of defects that exactly matched
defects on the back, and then "restored away" the defects, so they could
only be seen on close examination. The *ONLY* reason that was done was to
deceive the auctions they were consigned to and the ultimate buyers, and it
worked.

There is no possibility that this was done so a collector could display them
on their walls. You might say, maybe the collector wanted the displayed
repros to have the same defects his originals did, but the defects matched
the items that were sanded down, *NOT* the actual originals.
