Hi Steve,
I too have used Jaime's service and never once has he asked what I was going to
do with the item after it was restored (nor should he in normal circumstances).
Jaime testified that Haggard told him he (meaning Haggard) was keeping them for
himself and using them to display once he sold his collection of orginals.
Fair enough and certainly no reason to stop working (though I might have
questioned the need for multiple copies of the same poster, and even wondered
why he needed repros on linen or made from sanded-down cards, but to each his
own, and if it was just an odd customer so be it).

The problem lies when Jaime was then sent some of the restored/fake lobbies and
posters from other collectors , both to ask his opinion on them and for him to
"re-restore" them for better presentation. At this point something should go
off in your head and you realize that people are now purchasing these items as
original collector's pieces.
To continue to make them after this point in time seems to me the wrong thing
to do, and the evidence shows that he did indeed make them after this point.

Sean- Therein lies the rub. If Jaime KNEW what Kerry was doing with the
repros., that is wrong and means definite culpability.
I have used Jaime's services on several occasions and never once did he ask
me what my intentions were for the pieces he worked on
me for. He or any restorer really do not have a vested interest in whether
I would turn around and sell the piece, consign it to auction
or keep it for my own collection and I have never had any restorer ask me
what my plans were for the piece they were working on for me.
I'm thinking in particular of a very rare silent stone-litho lobby card
that I own that is a highly desireable title and design. The bottom 3 inches
of it had been cut and paper replacement was done to it including some text
and artwork. In a sense, that section has been forged to make it
look like its original to the card. If I sold this piece without disclosing
the significant restoration/replacement that it has had and the buyer
came back at me later after discovering the restoration, its me who would be
responsible, not the restorer who did the work for me.
I honestly don't know which way to go on this.
  Steve

In this instance the gun dealer and manufacturer are one and the same.
And the question is, should a gun dealer continue to sell guns to someone
they know is killing people with them?

The closest analogy which I think this can best be compared to is this...

    Gun manufacturers, manufacture guns legally

    Gun dealers sell guns legally

If I go into a gun shop and purchase a gun legally and on the paperwork I
state that I'm going to use the gun for hunting purposes, but then I go out and
murder 30 people, is it the gun dealers fault and reponsibility? Is is the gun
manufacturers fault and reponsibility? Should the gun dealer and gun
manufacturer go to jail? I don't believe so.

No, it's the person who decided to break the law who's responsible.
Someone can only be responsible for their own actions and no one elses.

For those following the Universal Horror Fraud Cases, I just learned
tonight that as of December 2, 2009
the lawsuit filed by Jim Gresham against poster restorer Jaime Mendez was
dismissed and thrown out of court.

I'm just a little surprised that it took well over a month for this
information to be disseminated to the public.
Well, maybe not. With all the bashing that Jaime Mendez was subjected to
here on MoPo and elsewhere, it really doesn't surprise me that there was no
mention of this.

And where is Ed and Sue Poole when you need them??? With their up to the
minute news alerts, not even a peep about this.
