Exactly, as Rich and Jeff agree/explained (hey... wait... is that a Mopo first?):

I've received several packages shipped via the Post Office with this kind of tracking (sending it "registered"). It works, except for one caveat: They are very slow to update the stops the package is making. Usually, by the time the tracking on their website indicates it has left California and is now in Dallas or Atlanta it is actually showing up on my doorstep. So, not as good as the near-real-time tracking of UPS and Fedex, but at least you can see that the package has been shipped, is in the system and is moving. It's proof that the shipper has actually shipped and is not still holding on to the item after 7 days, which is all I'm really looking for in a tracking number.

Kevin's report of incredibly poor packaging and shipping damage on his HELP poster is *very* disturbing. If that happens to me, the poster is going back immediately and a PayPal refund demand filed even faster.

How could *anyone*, much less an Ebay seller with over 6,000 positive feedbacks, ship a $350 poster like that? Or *any* poster, for that matter?

Sean,

you are right.

That's precisely what tracking is... being able to follow and know exactly where a package is, while it is enroute, from stop to stop. Tracking is not just knowing when an item arrives to its destination.

However--Priority mail (or first class) can be tracked (following from stop to stop) if that same item is also sent Registered.
from USPS site:

o _/Registered Mail /_/-- /The mailpiece is accounted for its entire journey and can be monitored from location to location. This service can be added to First Class and Priority Mail.

Just to clarify JR,
Delivery confirmation is NOT tracking.
The Post Office does not offer tracking except on Express Mail shipments.
There is NO tracking service available for domestic Priority Mail.

    Sheet posters?

    Kevin (and Rick),

Hmmm... I have not received mine either. Marci and Teri
acknowledged the receipt of my PayPal payment on Jan. 31 -- so
there has been time for it to get here based on what their
auction description of "Estimated delivery within 5-8 business
days" at their Ebay auction for this poster:

http://cgi.ebay.com/THE-BEATLES-ORIGINAL-HELP-ONE-SHEET-POSTER-TRI-FOLDED_W0QQitemZ190369070076QQ

But it's only been 7 business days as of today, so that's not
necessarily cause for concern. I did email them an inquiry today
-- and since I paid for insurance I would expect them to provide
a tracking number. ALL post offices offer tracking number
service. It costs a buck or so, but for purchases like this I
would have expected an ebay Seller with over 6,000 positive
feedbacks to provide a tracking number. Perhaps a bit disturbing
is the fact that I don't expect an Ebay seller with over 6,000
positive feedbacks to claim their post office doesn't offer
    tracking. That's odd.

Rick, if you see this, it might be a good idea to send Mari a
brief message asking her what's up with the shipments?

Just curious of anyone has received the Beatles "HELP" Tri-Folded One Sheet
posters that were mentioned here several times. I ordered two weeks ago but still not
received. And, when I asked for a tracking number they told me the post office they used
didn't offer tracking..? Thought that was strange. Not making any conclusions just
curious if anyone has received their posters? Hoping they show up in next couple days...
