Excellent point!  No collectible category is immune to the seduction of greed (& the technology to make fake "vintage" comics or anything else magically appear).

Old Master paintings are forged all the time. There are fakes of zillions of inexpensive collectibles, and expensive collectibles alike. I once saw an interview where a journalist took an FBI lab guy to a sports memorabilia show and the FBI guy said it was obvious from a quick look that half the items in the show were fake, and that he wouldn't be surprised if he found (if he could take everything into the lab) that 90% of the items were fake.

Yet all these crooks want nothing to do with the comics hobby, because it is too hard to fake items there (or pass off restored items as unrestored)? Everyone said the same thing about movie posters, at least until last year, and look how that worked out. And there are now million dollar comics/ If THAT doesn't attract crooks and sleazeballs (assuming they are not there already), I will be amazed.

Bruce.. on things like action #1, the senior grader, who gets paid well, does that
also, I think they have a "committee" so to speak.. 1-2-3 graders who have to agree on the grade.
you would have to buy all the graders to get such a scam to work

however, that does not mean that people who own stock in CGC may not get preferential treatment, which is a general feeling of the comics hobby.
of course, in the comics hobby, they think every big sale is a scam of some sort, so they're all alot like JFK conspiracists

as a side note. A friend of mine had a pretty good sale of top-quality GA comics in CGC 8.0-9.6 on fleabay today
to me the prices were really underwehelming.

take a look, those of you who are into comics
these prices really sucked if you ask me and are indicative that the price structure in the comics hobby is not on solid ground as both myself & Bruce have been saying for years

you will have to log in to fleaBay to see the completed listings

But of course, no one EVER cheats anyone at a grading service. But on the other hand, some of the guys who work there surely work for fairly low wages, and could they not be tempted to cheat for some serious coin?

If we're still talking about the Action Comics sale, a forged comic wouldn't get past the CGC, and that particular grading / authentication service is what's holding the value, and allowed such a high realized-price. As much as you want to complain about Professional Grading, it does have that benefit.
