But alas, only achieved the look of just a cheap duotone.
Nothing against a bit of colour, or full colour, fortunately, as
generally you're not going to be getting anything else.
Strong B&W stone litho got to be a nice change in my book, and highly
appropriate for the genre.
But, each to their own.

Just checked the Heritage archives and the MovieGoods repro is
actually a reproduction of the 1953 reissue. Its interesting that
they chose to add another colour to the original art - possibly to
make it more effective!

Just looking at the MovieGoods repro of the one sheet and it has
yellow colouring added. Its referred to as Style "C".

Is the one Channing has a Style "A" or "B" and has anyone seen other
styles?

I must say I disagree with Phil here. I think it's a really good
poster, and, in my view
it's one of those posters that looks better "in the flesh", so to
speak than any picture
can communicate. We have the three sheet but not a one sheet.

It's a great movie, but Victor Mature is no Robert Mitchum and GUN

Channing's notes that the studio deliberately wanted monochrome
full bleed art for the one sheet is interesting and one wonders
what was behind this thinking. But I don't see great design
elements in this poster. Oddly enough, the Australian paper,
especialy the daybill is much more attractive, using similar art
and in colour.

Just checked, Channing still has his.

Don't know why this one isn't valued more highly generally, unless
people find the monochrome a turn off.
Up there with Out of the Past and Gun Crazy paper for me.
Top Noir (literally) poster.
