I can see the copy now - "I'm flooding the market with so many auctions that
there has never been a better time to be a buyer and find great deals"

    Really? 400,000 "auctions"?
Or 235,000+ repros, plus another 150,000+ "fishing expeditions" where the
prices are usually Mrs. Miniver high above FMV buy-it-nows, with "only" around
10,000 actual auctions posted - and again a great majority of those are at
starting prices which could be considered FMV or higher.

I would suggest that you run as many auctions on a weekly basis as there
are actual auctions on eBay combined.

Absolutely! There are over 400,000 eBay auctions for posters alone, and
another half million or more of all other types of movie memorabilia.

If all of those would just "go away" there would be WAY more buyers for
auctions like mine and Rich's, and lots more buyers for dealers like you and
Kirby, but of course that is unlikely to happen, until the eBay implosion is
complete, and that might be a year or too off.

I don't know about new buyers coming in, but I do know that the current
over-supply will surely get absorbed (except on the bottom end stuff, which
will NEVER get absorbed) and then the prices will steadily rise and that is
when people will look back at today's prices as a golden buying opportunity.

        Bruce,
would you say the number of weekly auctions at this point in time has
something to do with there being more items for sale than buyers?
And do you see a few thousand more collectors coming into the hobby the
next few years and that is why it is a golden buying opportunity? Or can you
explain a little further?

I think this has more to do with the size of the hobby than anything
else. If there were more than a few thousand active collectors, there would
surely be buyers for posters like these.

Right now, there is an imbalance in the hobby, with more items for sale
than there are buyers. This creates lots of buying opportunities, except among
those dealers who choose to "wait things out" and not lower their prices (which
is absolutely their right to do!). I am 100% certain that a few years from now
collectors will look back at this time as a golden buying opportunity (even if
some prices fall even further).

Well, honestly there is certainly a difference between "buying"
a poster for 99.99 and having a starting bid of 99.99.

I was curious because I have two linen backed one sheets I'm
selling on eBay right now. Both are listed at 99.99. With a couple more to
follow next week.

I can't believe they wouldn't sell at this price no matter
what the graphics.

I decided I wasn't going to bombard MOPO with another ho-hum
listing only to annoy people.

If anyone is interested. I am also offering free shipping on
one of the posters. If you took more than one the shipping would still be free!

Here is the link to my auctions...
