Prize with me. DeMille was doing all of this casting and test screening during
the time he shot his cameo for Sunset Blvd. Thanks for all of the additional

You're either a relatively well-informed DeMille enthusiast, and playing with
us, or you've forgotten that THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH was done with Charlton
Heston. DeMille entertained the idea of Lancaster; the conventional wisdom was
that the part WAS Burt Lancaster. DeMille preferred Kirk Douglas, but Douglas
would not work for half price, DeMille's dictum. The reasoning being that
working in a DeMille picture would be worth it to the performer in the long
run. After DeMille had DARK CITY screened for himself several times and JULIUS
CAESAR, he decided on HESTON. An amusing detail is that DeMille noticed Heston
waiving at him from behind the wheel of a convertible,
on the Paramount lot -- and appreciated his style. Woohoo!

In the most technical sense, Cecil B. DeMille was not working on a movie
(as a Director) at the time he appeared in Sunset Boulevard. He was of course,
involved in Pre-Production for other films and his next film as a Director
wouldn't be until a few years later. During the time of the shoot he was in
development for the film he would do with Burt Lancaster, The Greatest Show on
Earth.
The film set that was created for DeMille to be on for Sunset Boulevard was
for a film that had wrapped almost a year earlier. The film was a big hit for
DeMille and they were able to easily find the costumes and set pieces to
re-create a small portion of the earlier DeMille film for the establishing
shots that were needed for Sunset Boulevard. Rather than give the title away, I
will just say that the Dance of the Seven Veils played a big part in the
DeMille film.
Before the Fred Astaire Stage closed at Paramount about 3 years ago I used
to work on that stage all the time as that is where music scoring was done. The
two adjacent stages are where much of the Stark Trek films and series were
housed for a very long time.Older people around the lot referred to them as the
DeMille stages and one of them even had his name on it until modern times had
it replaced by Gene Roddenberry and Star Trek plaques.

The other day I watched, once again, Sunset Boulevard on TCM.
There’s a scene in the movie where Norma Desmond(Swanson) is paying a
visit to Cecil B. DeMille, who’s playing Himself. Gloria Swanson is paying a
visit to an actual set, of an actual movie that was being filmed at the time.
My question is: what is the movie that was being filmed?
(looking up IMDb would give you more than a clue, so, no cheating)
