Greg, I quite agree with your sentiment, though I am troubled by people who sell lots of posters giving descriptions which are really misleading, though not necessarily incorrect. It isn't good for the hobby. A newbie might not be aware that only the re-releases of one-sheets from Stagecoach really show the cast. So as an example, for a knowledgeable seller to advertise a late 40's or even 60's re-release as " Original vintage theatre poster from the 1939 Best Picture Stagecoach" without stating that it is not the original release theatrical poster, just seems very wrong.
Such a poster's "vintage" is really 1948 or 1961and the example I have given sure looks poised to deceive those who aren't experts and are just hoping to get a real high end poster for their "movie room" at home. ----- Original Message ----- From: Greg To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, April 01, 2012 10:58 AM Subject: Re: [MOPO] Poster description I checked out this guy's other items, which range from comic books to vintage coin-op machines. The pricing on everything is breathtakingly delusional, and unless the shipping includes oral sex from the delivery woman.... it's is a tadge high too. Oh, well. People can charge whatever they want. The prices are so high that I highly doubt if ANYONE with enough money to pay these jacked-up prices would be dumb enough to pay them. A quick Google will also give even the most clueless poster newbie enough ammo to realize this guy was on crack when he listed this stuff. Greg Douglass On 4/1/2012 9:18 AM, Phillip W. This seller doesn't appear to do a lot of poster selling. While someone can charge whatever they want, having an $11,000 Buy It Now price would seem to warrant doing a little research, unless this level of accuracy represents full disclosure. There are several active poster sellers on EBay and elsewhere who will describe a poster as follows: "Original vintage poster from this 1937 John Wayne western" The poster in question is perhaps a 1952 re-release, but that information is not disclosed. Though the poster being sold is not a reproduction and none of the description is inaccurate, it certainly seems like a hugely deceptive practice.
