I suspect that in many cases it depends on whether the poster or the
autograph is the rarer item. A Gilda one-sheet goes for much more money that
a Rita Hayworth autograph. I imagine that having Rita's autograph on the
poster in a non-obtrusive place would not detract from the look or value of
the poster, but I don't think it would necessarily increase the value of it
either. Given how rare/ valuable that poster is, I imagine that on a given
day if an autographed copy came to auction it could fetch more... or less
than whatever the prior sale had been, but most likely the purchaser would
be a poster collector, rather than an autograph collector.
If it were a copy of Some Like It Hot, autographed by Billy Wilder, Jack
Lemmon or Tony Curtis, the same might be true. If it were autographed by
Marilyn Monroe, I suspect it would increase the value tremendously. But in
the latter case the value of that poster to poster collectors, would be
trumped by its value to Marilyn Monroe collectors.
In the same way a copy of Help signed by each of the Beatles might well
garner more money than an unsigned copy... but not from the typical poster
collector.
David Prowse is just not in that league.
The first Toy Story film was made more than 15 years ago and I played on the
Soundtrack. At one of the scoring sessions, I brought an advance one-sheet
as I often do for projects that I'm working on. I left it in the booth for
Randy Newman to sign. John Lassiter and Steve Jobs were there that day too
and seeing Randy sign it, they joined in. They were the Director and
Producer after all. I really had no idea who they were. I now have plenty
of things that Randy and John have signed, but nothing else signed by Steve
Jobs. It was the only film he took a producing credit for during his time
running Pixar.
While a Toy Story advance has some value, I think this one might be worth
more because of the Job's autograph.

poster
I agree about the David Prowse autograph on this poster. I don't think it
adds anything and it could possibly subtract. I often specialize in
posters and lobbies with autographs and often find they really do add value
if it's the right autograph and definitely genuine (i.e. I had a one-sheet
for Two Women with Sophia Loren's autograph). In the case of Prowse, he's
been autographing tons of posters, etc since the late 70s and it's pretty
common. I'd think the only important autograph on a Star Wars posters
would be Lucas, Harrison Ford, and perhaps John Williams and all taken in
person only.
Good luck, Channing

Have to agree,
Average Joe's don't know who he is (for shame) and also he likes to SIGN,
so its not rare to have his autograph (I had 5 or more quads signed by
him a few years back - and could have had more).
So as you say "an investment decision" do as mentioned, take a still and
have that signed.
But if you love the poster, love him, want to keep it, who cares right?

IMO, dont go with the sig on the poster. I would get a still and have him
sign that. His "john hancock" will most likely devalue the poster...
unless that isnt something you are concerned with or worried about in the
future.

Input please,
I'll be seeing David Prowse in a couple weeks at a convention and I'm
kinda torn on this, as an investment decision, would it be wise to have
David Prowse sign his name next to the Darth Vader figure image on the
Birthday Cake Star Wars poster? Or leave the poster alone without his
signature?
Any thoughts would help in making my decision.
Thanks,
Jeff
