Hi Ben Your cards do look like the American re releases with the Australian rating sticker added.
Although most Australian printed lobby cards were for locally made films, I think there are some lobby cards that were printed in Australia for international films. Here is one particularly impressive example ...... http://movieposters.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=161137&lotNo=52113 The cards are signed by Frank Tyler, a prolific Australian poster artist. Another would be for the re release of Camille .... http://stores.ebay.com/JOHN-REID-Original-Movie-Posters/_i.html?_nkw=camille&_sid=2171409 Regards John JOHN REID VINTAGE MOVIE MEMORABILIA Website: www.moviemem.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/moviemem PO Box 92 Elanora Qld 4221 Australia ----- Original Message ----- From: Sales To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, October 15, 2012 12:12 PM Subject: [MOPO] question for dealers - Great Waltz 1938 Hi all just a quick note to say a big thank you to those of you that responded to my query on the origins of the "Great Waltz" lobby cards I mentioned. From your posts I think it is fair to say the cards originate prior to the 1946 re-issue definitely, the colours have faded due to the passage of time and thus wear and they are of MGM origins. Three of the four cards have an Australian censor rating sniped on which could have suggested they were first printed in the US and then sent to Australia but there is no mention of the printers name at the bottom right hand corner like there is on the 1938 original US release card. The cards I have do not have a printers name ?? This leads me to my final two questions to this group of experts ii - particularly the aussie ones. Who were the Australian printers when it came to lobby cards in the 1930's and prior to 1946 and did they print lobby cards a lot or was it largely left to the US to send them to Australia? Also would the practise ever be for a card to be sent from the US without a printers name or for that matter in that period would lobby cards (be they re-issues or not) be printed without the printers name ? http://www.allaboutmovies.com.au/products/lobby-cards/the-great-waltz-1938-luise-rainer-fernand-gravet-lobby-4 Regards Ben All About Movies Website: www.allaboutmovies.com.au Visit the MoPo Mailing List Web Site at www.filmfan.com ___________________________________________________________________ How to UNSUBSCRIBE from the MoPo Mailing List Send a message addressed to: [email protected] In the BODY of your message type: SIGNOFF MOPO-L The author of this message is solely responsible for its content.
