What a pity - end of an era to be sure. A huge debt of gratitude to Brian
and those that worked on it from me in England too.
Can't remember how I first got to know about MCW, but I do remember it
completely expanded my collecting horizons, as it made me aware of many US
sellers I wouldn't have encountered otherwise at that time. Of course most of
the *really* good stuff was already sold by the time the paper arrived on
these distant shores, but I still got hold of some excellent material that
either slipped through the cracks or wasn't particularly fashionable at the
time. Certainly ran up my phone bill with international calls back in those
days before email. I even bought a fax machine (anybody remember faxes?!!)
to help communicate across the time difference. Was always an exciting
moment when the paper dropped through the letterbox. Still got a stack of them
"archived" in my garage with various scribblings and underlinings. Can't
believe how much stuff I bought blind, i.e, no photos in the ad, or working
only from a sketchy verbal description on the phone. Hardly any emphasis on
condition if I recall correctly. Times have changed.
