I didn’t have a first that I remember but my introduction was in 1983. I was
working at a collectables shop in college and the owner bought the Rebel
Poster Exchange. A semi backed up to the store one day full to the brim of
posters and stills. Several hundred thousand posters(maybe ½ million+? Not
sure) and nearly one million stills(I remember that number because he bulked
them out to a dealer in Japan). From the 50’s up to 70’s. With the exception
of a few key sci-fi titles, multiples(over 100 in many cases) of most titles
in nearly every format. If only I had known then…

Not the very first, but one of the very first was an original first release
one-sheet to The 39 Steps in 1969. I was traveling with it, and a friend let
me stay overnight at his house, and he liked the movie so I gave him the
poster (I was strictly a lobby card collector at the time).

Most expensive night's lodging I ever had!

THAT'S a cool story!
Hmmm... well, I had the Frankenstein and Dracula mini-reprints I ordered
from Captain Company / Famous Monsters when I was 6. When I was 8, I found a
Blazing Saddles poster in the trash behind the theater. It was missing the
top right corner piece, so you couldn't see his peace-signed fingers, but I
didn't care. I still have what's left of 'em 'round here somewhere.

first poster I ever bought (that I can recall) was a Beast From
20,000 Fathoms 1sh along with a Thing From Another World 1sh back in
1968 at the NY Comicon. Later that day I bought a DTESS pressbook.
sadly, though I made a profit, I didn't own any of these items for a
full day as I sold them all and bought other stuff the same day, that
I sold and made more money on before the weekend was out
