It was the late 1960s, I think '69. I was probably twelve and I saw in the
paper that in Dallas there was a "Nostalgia Fair" held by Don Maris, I believe.
I believe it was at the old Sheraton, long gone now. My grandmother took me and
when I walked in and saw all these dealers selling film, magazines and OMG,
original movie posters!
It was a revelation that one could buy these old posters for these ancient gems
I had seen and loved on TV! I mean these were films that were made thirty plus
years before. Totally ancient history! You'd have thought I found the Holy
Grail!
I promptly bought a one sheet for $5, the most expensive of that day's haul,
for The Return of the Cisco Kid. I still have that poster as similar to one
shown here.

Gorgeous Fox stone litho

I bought several others for $1 each including Cowboy Serenade with Autry and a
couple of Tim Holt's, Avenging Rider and Dude Cowboy. None of these came close
to the stone litho highlight though.
If I only knew then what I know now. I guess theoretically that would make me
about 99 years old!

Subject: [MOPO] A question for you 18 yr olds....

In honor of MOPO's birthday, I ask a question: what was the very first movie
poster that you obtained?

For me, it was the very rare insert for the James Stewart classic film "Mr.
Hobbs Takes a Vacation". I bought this treasure from none other than Bruce
Carteron at the Denver poster store "Cinegraphics". Which if you are keeping
score, was (sad to say it closed) next door to Chipotle #1. If you want see a
picture of the store, visit your local Chipotle and look at the pictures on the
wall, its in the background (preserved for eternity).
