Lots of films, especially something like IFM, didn't always get official/dated re-releases. They just kept playing on and off for a long time, getting bookings from suburban and rurals, small circuits and independents. I can only imagine that IFM also did solid kids matinees for a very long time. I think that is the point Bruce is making.
I'm experiencing a bit of a Groundhog Day about this discussion on IFM. There is something crude about the 1955 IFM that goes beyond the colours. It is certainly a less desirable variation of the poster, it's clearly later - I think the 1955 is not a mistake and I think the attempts to elevate it to something better than it is does not reflect well on those doing it. But we have been here before with this stuff. People have no concrete info about why something is so, so they construct "plausible scenarios" to make something seem better than it might be.
