Sorry Kirby, you might be right that dealers do it, but it makes no sense to
me. Like someone thinking they got a "bargain"..?

As far as folks tire of their winnings, that's possible, but not the instant
they bought it.

Yes, dealers. Also, every bid in an auction does not represent the highest
bid that the winner is prepared to make. But also folks buy things in
auctions and then tire of them at times. This is another avenue for
Heritage to sell, and for a prospective buyer to make a few bucks if the
opportunity presents itself. The bidder can opt out of this program on any
given lot - or opt in.

I've noticed a curious phenomenon in Heritage Auctions.

On some items, as soon as the auction is barely over, there appears a link
MAKE OFFER TO OWNER, and under it is added " This item's Owner is
proactively entertaining Offers".

Would anyone care to chip in and explain to me what this is all about? Who
are those buyers that turn around and try to sell as soon as they became
winners of the item? Are these investors? Dealers? And who is their target
audience? Heritage "regulars" who just happen to miss this auction? Because
anyone who participated in the auction, already bid as high as they would
care to, or so it seems.

I don't get it. Can somebody illuminate?

Thanks, Zeev
