very well put John- heres how I see it.. the movie poster history is very scattered..esp in different countrys as there is really no bonifide sources that can be shown with documents and sustaining evidence with the closest data Ive seen from " Learn about posters" and a few other hearsay sources.. most of the printers would not sharethe data, the studios had no reason to share the data as they never intended for the posters to be sold as the revenue split with the artists and actors and such would have been a residual nightmare.. and with poster exchanges and national screnn serviceit seemed like a closed network, however theater managers, advertising men, adnthe printers and studip would pilfer the poster or some just never returned them and used for insulation in attics and walls and floors.. IN USA at least.. when I 1st sold posters in 77 most peopel cold not imagine them as art on the walls only a handfull of nerdy collectors even colected and museum laughed out loud most times although remeber POP art was being acceptted in the 60s but even that was odd like the winterland posters and billgrahm adn all.. I remeber personality poster in NYC sold all the col hip like zappa on a toilet, hendrix , Joplin and the like what we caled Commercial posters.. later companys like Scorpio-Funky and others would sell 1000s of the black light posters... I actually met the guy that held the record of selling commercial posters right here in OHIO medina Ohio,, it was called Pro arts and his million dollar seler was the Farrah Fawcet poster that also started the girl poster Boom/// actally after that was strmakers posters who also did the cheescake and beefcake posters of models I sold these also... and I just found out a few months ago that Todd fishers wife ) Katherine Hickland ) was a poster girl back then I told them one was on ebay....so the poster moom was realy between the 60s 70s 80s andlast one I sodl mega quanity was Michael Jackson i sold 30K in one month in my little shop of jackson and could have done 3 x that.. it was a phenomena I had to hire offduty cops to control the crowd lines as I was 1st in Toledo to have jackson posters brought a roll of 300 back on a plane froma trade show in NYC...so I saw how nuts they where in NYC and got lucky..then By mistake the shipper sent nea duplicate order of like 1000 more .I freaked but they all sold out within lke a week or so,, crazy times..I also sold all the metal bands and we had over i think 5000 posters on racks in displays and more loose in storage.. then when Video came in I started to get 1 sheets of the video release and soon had a warehouse of 100,000 that was 13 pallets 5 foot tall each.. I pulled so many chest musles moving them... I alsi in the 80s worked as a poster hanger in detroit for cannon and tristar and CBS records and did many cannon films like runaway train, and chuck norris films and maddona -the true blu album and more my memory fails me... But i would tratde other adn only needed to do 10 sights thats when I saw the printers who did them as they sent rolls of 300 400 to me in the triangle boxes.. and 200 in flats...I had so manyposters i would use some to pack other posters..I sa then that some studios shipped from printers on east coast, midwest and west coat,,, names like Gotham, Gore, continental, where he biggies.. so I was around this stuff in the 80s biggtime... uo till then it was not a real organized system.. the dealers that wholsale would all buuy huge numbers but as inventorys grew the sales dwindled.. thats why now all thats left is the stuff being passed around from 80s that was in the supply chain.. butthe euopeans and everyone else thought ok lets make them again in same size and types but the runs needed are typically 10,000 in actually old school litho..except now with digital they can do ONE= yes a 1 off poster... witha digital file they can print you one... thats what the portal guys went into and they sell archives of digital art on deman worldwide now.. so thats why printers ae about dead.. most survive noe by specialty coatings and small just in time jobs...is a whole new world with digital.. noplates , no upstart costs and its being done in asia so its also cheap. they only deal is art sales are down as expendable income is still rebounding.. On 2014-11-14 16:31, JOHN REID Vintage Movie .. But he emperors clothes posters are doing pretty well. as long as people keep that wim as to ebay... Ive been off so long due to illness i could barely launch a add as its so many option..but I mus say the philaopino service reps make me want t travle to the phillipines because they have a very vibrant attitude and kindness..unlike the i don't care attitude the USA started to have about service.. as to descriptions or false staements ... he entire ebays loaded with that on everything.. but actually china is kicking ass as they discoverd fill orders quick and give goo price and do beter quality..so the entire world output is good but if they attend to the polution then we can reverse the damage being made..every dealer I aggree should do best to do due diligence in descriptions and many uses the Found in gramas attic to hide deception... but with time those peopel get found out the problem I see is so much disinformation is spread by fellow dealers about each other that that does more dmagae to he hobby then a few portal posters that people put on ebay....... I get calls from people all the time that say I just found a original dracula in my attic and when I tell them its a portal they hink im lieing to get the poster for nothhing,,, I dont like to burstthier dream as many can have that done,,, Ive ben at autions where the auctioneers have sold reproductions as originals and i coulndnt speak up as I would again seem like the bad guy and watch peopel get bilked over commercial postes... but my point is its notjust poster guys....so relax.. the entire world screws each other on all things everyday... Lawyers doctors, food, cars, banks and homes. etc.. noneof us ae without guuilt or responcibility.. even movie makers... But we can I believe try to treat each other right, help others and maybe brighten someones day with some posters without causeing loss or harm in anyway.. I can tell you I think this collection of the 77 year old man was sent to me like a Rochak test or rubics cube and I fully expect to be Knihjted by the queen if I actually figure out how to sell these and listhem without having a full blown hissy fit... actually a nobel peace prize, a heisman trophy, a lifetime achiement award fom he academy , and give me back the Oscar I gave them back, a tony, a gold record and grammy and a eagle scout badge and I will be Ok...maybe also a bag of choclate truffles as I never had any...and a new mouse for my computer..... that's all.. well and maybe a Howard the duck one sheet poster( sue has some :)..and ill be all set,,,yep its a simple request i know but everyone needs a goal. :)) there must be a life other then posters please tell me there are snowblower discussion groups or something ?

There is a distinction between repros/fakes and original posters that
are misrepresented. Reissues are often sold as original on ebay and
this is particularly prevalent with Australian posters which are not
dated. Many sellers on ebay use the excuse that they are only casual
sellers and not experts but the end result is that buyers get ripped
off. Mistakes do happen from time to time but I have often found that
when I contact the seller to let them know that the poster they are
selling is a reissue, they do nothing to correct the listing.

This is a big problem on ebay and I don’t think ebay has a clue as
to how to address it.

Marketing.

After 30 years in it ones learns how to do it. That said, it doesn't
always work. Sometimes success is just luck but it's all about
getting the message out there, some is free, some costs money. And
rarely does one get a free write-up in a newspaper (when promoting a
business) so you better have an angle, of course it's certainly
lucky that eBay made that statement today, I didn't ask them to time
their admission with some of my media that is coming out. Will it
pay dividends? Who knows, it won't hurt, and I am now riding that
horse a little harder at the moment.

Strike. Iron. Hot

Also, I've never been afraid of spending money on advertising, it's
not a bad word it's good business.
