In the US, resale of movie posters (and any other copyrighted materials like CDs or books) is protected by the first-sale doctrine. If you have aquired a movie poster legally, you can do with it whatever you want: Give it away, sell it, destroy it, whatever you pleaseß. So unless a previous owner can prove that a poster has been stolen from him, we‘re all in the clear here.
The first-sale doctrine DOES NOT grant the right to reproduce copyrighted materials.
