Christopher - Great question. Having seen the movie when it came out I thought that a horror movie was something black and white that was from the 1930's.
I consider JAWS a thriller. I just checked with IMDB and they list it as an adventure, mystery thriller. Not that they get everything right. If you go by the Universal horror mode I guess you could make the case for it being a horror movie. Frankenstein, The Wolfman, Dracula and Bruce, the shark, not Hershenson, are all doing what they are, by their nature, compelled to do. Survive in a world that would otherwise destroy them if given the chance. Glenn T.
