To all who thought I had died and those who wish I would: Just a progress report:
Life is the ivory tower is superb! I want to thank all of you because after two years of haggling, debating and researching posts with you all, I find myself in pretty good shape to discuss issues with students. I have set up class discussion boards that work rather like the MoQ except I now have 200 plus folks commenting and discussing things. The only drawback, personally, is that I have to be far nicer to them than I ever was here. I am teaching psychology. Being forced to focus on a single subject for a change is difficult but beneficial. I still manage to throw in lots of philosophy but then I think psychology really is about answering the remaining questions of philosophy. I told the students on the second day that psychology addresses the two big questions people have been asking since the dawn of time: What Is? And How do we know? I gave them the other really big questions: Free will vs determinism Rationalism vs Empiricism Nature vs Nurture Mind vs Body I even showed them a clip from the Matrix where Morpheus offers Neo the Red pill and tells him it will take him deeper down the Rabbit Hole. I told my classes that this is what I thought the course would be about. Anyway once again, my immeasurable thanks to you all for helping me to scout the Rabbit Hole in advance.
