Akshay: All these facts actually provide a very coherent and cohesive paradigm to look at the world. There no longer lies an element of foreignness in me when I listen to piano rock, because to me it is only a rendering styled in a specific tone, it is not something unrelated to Indian music. I can even mentally connect a traditional Indian song and a modern alternative rock song, seeing the difference only in language and minor flavor adjustments (the guitar instead of the sitar, for example).
Moreover, another surprising fact for the Westerner, although perhaps not so foreign to the ancient Greek, is that we are now in the most degenerate of ages. Greek philosophy did have such thoughts, I believe. For them it was Gold, Silver, Bronze and Stone (I think). In Indian philosophy it is the Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dvapara Yuga and Kali Yuga. We are in the Kali Yuga. Today, and it is especially an American attitude, it is believed that we are getting better every day (especially the technology industry with all its opportunities). This is simply wrong, although it is the way it is supposed to be. We are not improving day by day until we get out of maya. Like every other student fond of technology, I always reacted to portrayals of America with awe and respect, something which has considerably decreased and I no longer have the craving to live in America one day and study at MIT. America, to me, seems like the ultimate maya machine. Ron: Akshay, The U.S. is just like any other place, but if you come here To worship maya, this is the land of plenty. But if you come Here to experience some of the finer aspects of the land and peoples You would not be disappointed. I think we idealize the Ancient Greeks, they held their city states And their democracy through conquest, they held slaves. Only citizens Had any sort of freedom.
