While beliefs of any other type are subject to criticism, in the name of "tolerance" it is often said that we can't criticize people's religious beliefs. . Ron: We may question and criticize all we like, personally I have never been successful with changing someone else's viewpoint about faith and religion. I became well read in Christian doctrine just for the reason of appealing to them from their own viewpoint. Soon as you start parting ways in theory you lose them, you forget that the reason that they adhere so stringently to faith is because they do not wish to think. Faith is easy, thinking requires effort. Unfortunately Steve, people have to want to see things differently. If you have ever seen the Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, a point of view gun would be the ticket to the problem. Hi Ron and Steve, ³Other people¹s dogmatic viewpoints² have taken them beyond an intellectual framework. Dogma destroys intellect. An empathy with the point of view they express may give a hint to where they are coming from. If they are denying intellect and have gone to a mystical point of view I think it is OK to acknowledge the depth of their commitment and talk about something else! Or try to accept their mysticism and talk about that I myself certainly have whacky-do views based on my experience. A point-of-view gun is not appreciated. I will wish to find a cannon. Joe
