I'd say that they are not the same thing in extreme,
clear-cut cases. For instance:
>From your tastes in music one may discern a pattern
(or several patterns) of value; from "I always feel
out of breath when walking too fast" one could discern
a pattern of experience.
However, most of the examples from daily life
that we could come up with, are not extreme clear-cut
cases. Your question is one of many where Fuzzy Logic
may prove helpful.
Instead of arguing whether patterns of value
and patterns of experience are the same thing of
different things ( a discussion that may go on till
kingdom comes) using Fuzzy logic we just say:
Particular patterns can be, 'to some degree', patterns
of value and, 'to another degree', patterns of
experience.
The two examples above would then become: pattern
from musical tastes,, very close or 'nearly' a pure
pattern of value and the one of out of breath,,
"nearly' a pure pattern of experience and 'barely, if
at all' a pattern of experience.
From "always feeling upset when served a not
cold enough Martini" we could deduce a pattern (or
several) which is, to some extent, a P. of value and,
to another extent a P. of experience.
If, on top of our computer screens, we'd put an
sticker reminding us : " Of few things in our life we
can say that they are black or white; of most we can
say that they are grey'' most on-line Forums would be
deserted.
