as for your question: >If we now have the state, and we can make it work for us, both >working as a frame for social patterns of value and, furthering the >development AND being controlled by - intellectual patterns of value >(reason) then why on earth should we not do so? When you offer to help people, they will expect you to provide something. If leave them under the illusion that the times are good and they should able to help themselves, failure becomes their problem. The state here is bankrupt and cannot help its citizens. Dumbing down the citizens has been working well, the intellect is dead. So pacifying the people is the state's job. A friend of mine made a comment about the stimulus package the government was trying to pass. The politicians were saying that we are giving rebate checks to the consumers to stimulate the economy. Notice the word 'consumers' instead of 'citizens'. That's what we have become. and unfortunatly, any state help will not lead to feeling of calmness and security, which would allow for the luxury of time to think about deeper things. Instead, like a child used to an allowance, this society will simply spend it. The pattern of thought in this state is flawed. Fundamental changes are needed. When the far and few-in-between intellectuals show up to talk about the real issues, they get dismissed. Meanwhile, corporate state assistance is alive and well.
