[Platt to Chris] Looks like we share the same criticism of each other's postings.
[Arlo] Welcome to the Great Pee-Wee, Chris. Expect to see it often with Platt, its his favorite rejoinder. I've outlined these tactics before (check the archives if you wish), and many others have also commented on it. Mark Heyman, a contributer years ago coined the term "Platteral Shift" to describe the ridiculous tactics used to move a dialogue from any point of value into the mire of one-liners. A thread in the archives you may want to look over is "The Carousel of Faux Philosophy", or search this phrase in general, if you want a look into what to expect with Platt. Underlying all this is, as you correctly point out, nothing but apologist dogma for the Glorious USA, polarized into the following dichotomy. Good=USA, Bad=Everyone Else. Notice how everything outside the USA is labeled is "socialist", only America The Superior stands atop the rest of the immoral world. Coupled with the moronic "commie" rhetoric you've seen ad nauseum, and as Ian said, that's Plattland. Outside one-liners proclaiming the greatness of America, the attack on anyone who DARES speak against the Righteous States of America, and the Glorification of the Lone Individual against the Evil forces of society, you will get this: distortion, evasion, deception. And with these attacks are always the same devices, Wurlitzers and Pee-Wee's. Criticize this and you get idiotic accusations of "ad hominem" attacks (boo hoo). You can try to be personable, I have (check the archives), but it wears thin in the face of this shameful rhetoric. If you go that route, you are a better person than I.
