I suggested "messing about" with anything might be damaging.
Messing about - implying a lack of respect or understanding for
patterns of value, or rights and responsibilities, in the thing being
"experimented" with.

Nature starts with all those existing POV's. Sadly, we misguided
humans, particularly scientists, rather more often start with our
preferred (prejudiced) intellectual patterns.

Natural evolution through genetic mutation only works because the
mutation rate is relatively small compared to the fidelity and
foecundity of reproduction. Too much "random" dynamic quality is bad
for us, and any kind of evolution. Species (SPOV's) require a large
measure of stability.

A scientist "messing about" is a bad scientist. Wild anarchic
experimentation should only take place in risk-limited environments,
like Hawkwind concerts.
