I think you should explain your paragraph. The M in MoQ is metaphysics. If you want to proclaim it dead, you need a better justification and explanation than to quote "academic philosophers" or the book from your latest class. Neither RMP or Nietzsche were lazy thinkers. Ron interjects: Hello Marsha, David, I think what DMB is trying to say is that the term "Metaphysic" has taken On a different meaning than it did before the 18th century, where before It was a philosophical branch of the natural sciences. after the 18th Centuries scientific revolution, science and philosophy were separated to distinguish the two. Thereafter, metaphysics became the philosophical enquiry of a non-empirical character into the nature of existence. The term Metaphysics today has a decidedly "subjective" connotation spirits, faith healing, crystal power, occultism, and other such topics which the philosophic pursuit of metaphysics generally does not include. What Pirsig and others of his ilk have called for is the need for re-uniting Philosophy with science once again. In effect Pirsigs call is not unlike W.James call for a new look at old ideas. In some respects, RMP has single handedly Revived the old meaning of the term. Which is why his books sat In the "metaphysical" section of the book store rather than in the Philosophy section until recently.
