To sum up, there's a place for metaphor and poetry in philosophy, but metaphysics is not the place. If we're aiming to propose a new and unique philosophy to the world, it must have a more substantial base to stand on. Appreciate the question, Marsha. Hi Ham, Marsha and all, Before Aristotle explained ³Metaphysics², he explained ³Pshchology², how we know things. He claimed that we know things by abstraction. I guess I am stuck with that methodology. Nicoll commenting in Psychological Commentaries states: ³To know and to be conscious are not the same.² Pirsig proposes an undefined DQ in metaphysics. Are Persig and Nicoll are on the same page with metaphor, analogy, gesture?. Ham denies a distinction between the ³conscious² and ³knowledge², and the undefined in philosophy cannot be used in metaphysics. IMO I have to use philosophy to go to Metaphysics!
