Question: Was this a 'hard mapping' or 'parallel contrast' ?
ie: Quality = overlap, overlap = self, ergo Quality = self (hard map)
or was this to say that self is empty and only meaningful through
quality? (parallel contrast)
or, of course, something else entirely...

You are right in that it is imperative that we seek to
understand, apprehend, attend to Quality in its constant
unfolding.
(I have heard elsewhere, the attempt made to abstract and
to too rigorously "define" Quality.) Too much time or
effort expended to do so is to risk burying it in cognition.
<metaphorplay>::
Watch a child blowing bubbles on a summer afternon.
Examine one of the jiggling, irridescent sperettes floating along.
The word that we use for what the child produced is "Bubble."
Write the word on an index card.
Build a brick box around the index card.
Discuss the meaning of each of the bricks that make up the box.
Now we understand the bubble floating along...

So, care is needed in how simply and directly we relate to quality.
The fewer bricks the better, after we've "gotten" the sense of it.

Indeed so.

"Meaning is care for the moment"
is a brilliant statement. Well done.

Thank god for TV and people magazine
to give us meaning. (my bad, slap, slap, slap)
Seriously, though, thanks for the opportunity to
twist myself through the trellis of these words.
thanks--mel
