hiya all,
been thinking about what's going on and the likelihood of something new
evolving to replace the old system....
in all likelihood the meltdown will bottom out at some stage and then we will
have an even more imbalanced scenario: wealth concentrated in even fewer hands
than before....cos who else is buying these panic sold shares, other than the
very rich?
anyway whatever particular shape the crisis takes next we have some new tools
at our disposal that we can use to organise/communicate independent of the
current kafka-esque system.
facebook is interesting. yes there is a lot of twaddle on it but at its heart
is an emerging web - an ecology of individuals, unmediated by any power
structures.
the degrees of separation twixt folk are diminishing. if you have a thousand
friends who all have a thousand friends themselves then you are one degree of
separation away from hundreds of thousands of people (allowing for friend
overlap).
whether it is facebook or some other networking tool the upshot is an efficient
means of coordinating people, on relatively large levels....ie perticipative
democracy becomes feasible.
