Mel, if you're looking for organizations that squander money and ignore
efficiency, check out the government bureaucracies. When bureaucrats are
allowed to operate on an unending supply of taxpayer money, they have no
incentive to economize or maintain high ethical standards. Since almost
half of America's citizens are govenment workers, you can probably get a
comparative report from your next door neighbor. When Obama becomes
president, we'll all be working for the government.

[Krimel]
Ineffectiveness and bureaucracy have never been in short supply. You find
them in any large institution. But it is just not true that government or
non-profits are any more or less susceptible to this than the private
sector. I don't know what percent of our citizens work for the government
but I would like to thank them all.

It is sad to hear folks like Ham demeaning the labor of teachers, nurses,
soldiers, sailors, pilots, policemen, firemen, judges, scientists, municipal
workers who maintain our infrastructure, clerks in our court system, air
track controllers, maintenance workers, janitors, transportation workers,
engineers, social workers, and health inspectors. They are a hard working
and much maligned group.

I think everyone has an incentive to live in a health prosperous community
and I think we should applaud the efforts of those who help to make it so.
These are the people who keep our streets clean and safe. They educate our
children and purify our water. They are the first responders and the court
last resort. They put men on the moon and found water on Mars. They launch
satellites and process our sewage. Where it exists they run public
transportation.

And what do this people do with the money the government "wastes" on them?
They feed their children and send them to college. They buy 50" plasma
screens and new tires for their cars. They eat out in restaurants and go
bass fishing. Their paychecks churn through the economy and add value. They
save and hope to retire in comfort.

When Obama becomes president I certainly hope we can look forward to a
return to responsible government that balances its budget and promotes the
general welfare and seeks to give good service and value to the all of us
who pay taxes. I look forward to the time when the very wealthy are not
patting themselves on the back for getting tax breaks that ensure the
quality of food in this nation's dumpsters is the best in the world.

That's trickle down economics.
