"principled" non-vote from the non-votes of those too ignorant, stupid or
drunk to exercise their franchise?

It is hypocritical to whine about the "way things are" and then fail to take
the one action at your disposal to influence change. The fact is things are
the way they are because citizens do not take their responsibilities
seriously. Non-votes impress no one. They accomplish nothing but to
strengthen the position of powerful and monied interests.

If you are dissatisfied with the choices on the ballot you are always free
to write in vote for RMP or Noneof Theabove. At least with a write in vote
you are making a legitimate political statement.

Krimel,

Nope. In Ct, and most states, there is an official State write-in list. If a voter writes-in someone not on the list, it is ignored.

But you are correct about taking the responsibility of citizenship seriously. For example, I called my Senators and Representative to complain about Treasury Secretary Paulson blacking out the Bailout Contract for Bank of New York. At least they know it hasn't gone unnoticed.
