[Ian] As I understand it, the reason for the 2nd was precisely to bear arms against tyrannical government armies...
[Arlo] Do you really think a pack of hunters and handgun owners are going to do anything but annoy an encroaching army armed with today's military weapons? Do you really think if the US Army turned "evil" and was used against American citizens, hunters and handgun owners would hold them off? Do you really think that if China invades America....? Don't get me wrong, I am all for hunter's, sportsmen and citizens afforded the right to own guns to hunt, sport shoot or defend themselves from criminals, but its time to put the "citizen's militia that will protect us from an invading army" stuff to rest. Also, I saw a great cartoon years back that questioned the notion of gun ownership, specifically the NRA, and how it has been used historically to preserve freedoms. For example, when blacks were denied the right to vote, where was the "NRA Army" to stand up to this tyranny? When Japanese citizens were locked up in internment camps during WWII, did the gun owners of America rise to protect freedom? And, when the Indians were rounded up, marched off to reservations, did gun-owning citizens stand up to the US Army?
